Kejohanan Futsal Terbuka Piala Ketua Pemuda, 14th November 2010

Waiting for the VIP...

We were keeping it under wraps, but FA was supposed to be participating in this tournament, but he pulled out the night before. Injured after playing rugby. Azman was roped in as replacement.

Khai was part of the squad, but I was chosen to play instead. Good sport Khai. Not easy to find someone like him. As a fellow keeper, I feel for him and I'm backing him to come back stronger in future football/futsal events.

With the VIP...

Arsenal Malaysia failed to qualify for the 2nd round after winning only 1 group game and losing the other 2. It was disappointing of course, but personally, I'm reminded why I don't really look forward to playing in futsal tournaments. When you are playing only 5 minutes per half on a small pitch, most guys will become aggressive and rough play is very common. It will be worse if the referee is not up to mark, and that's putting it mildly. All 4 teams hated the ref that took charge of our group. A couple of guys even threatened to beat him up.

We didn't lose because of the referee though. The other teams were just better on that day.

Very hot!!!

Enjoyed the "lepak" session afterwards though. Very much. By the way, all the pics here are from the AFCSM facebook page. More photos there.

Futsal training/familiarization session...

Arsenal Malaysia was invited to participate in Kejohanan Futsal Terbuka Piala Ketua Pemuda on the 14th of November. An announcement was made and the squad was selected. This session, held a few days before the tournament, was basically a training kickabout. A few other guys who were not participating in the tournament also dropped by to join in the session.

Of the new guys, I was impressed with Pai and Din, who were not part of the tournament squad. Zulhelmi, who is part of the squad, is a decent player too. These guys are definitely in our future plans if they can show they can commit.

As always, it was fun.

Futsal kickabout, 10th Oct 2010...

Our first futsal kickabout since becoming official! The players were divided into 4 teams and the teams played round robin.

Thanks to everyone who helped and came, either to play or just watch.

Amigos United FC 1-0 Arsenal Malaysia, 3rd October 2010

The first game after Raya. We had a full squad for this game against some college students. I didn't play though. The opponents booked the field and ref.

There was some confusion on the actual venue. We were all waiting at SMK Cochrane. When the opponents called the ref, he said it was not there. Some of us went to Cochrane Perkasa, which is also the wrong venue. The actual place was Pusat Kecemerlangan Sukan Cochrane.

The warming-up was done at the first venue, SMK Cochrane...

Jeff : C'mon, picture time!

Enjoying the game...

We played better than in our last game. Too bad we still lost. They scored the only goal of the game in the last minute.

We had a "buka puasa" as our appreciation dinner for everyone involved with the AGM. Long overdue, but worth the wait. Thanks all.

1st game of Season 2010/2011 & Arsenal Malaysia membership drive for 2010/2011

I rarely post about match viewing gatherings, because there are many of them. But this is special, not only because it's the first game of 10/11, but it's also the start of our membership drive.

Not a bad start to the drive, methinks. It will continue on for our next game against Blackpool, so hopefully, more Gooners will sign up as members of Arsenal Malaysia.

Soon, outstation Gooners can also register, most probably by downloading and then sending the application form with proof of payment.

Team Azri 8-1 Arsenal Malaysia, 7th August 2010

Game played at Setia Alam Ecopark Clubhouse. Really beautiful pitch. Expensive too.

Quite a trashing. Again, players not sticking to their positions is the main reason. Still fun outing though. Qamal Fikri scored our consolation.

Beautiful pitch...

Warming up...

Captain and Vice-Captain considering the starting lineup...

"I kill you!"

Naim reminding everyone that although we play for fun, we should still play our best...

Very important task, ensuring everyone pays...
